CRYSTAL NEEDS YOUR HELP

Crystal Parker is a wife and a mother of two daughters. She suffers from IgA nephropathy and will need a kidney transplant to survive. As few of you know, Crystal is a 1986 graduate of East Gaston High School. Then in 1989, she received her Associate’s Degree in Accounting from Gaston College. By June of 2003, she went back to her home church, Myrtle United Methodist Church, in Gastonia, NC. At this time, she returned to college to become a legal secretary enabling her to obtain her current job as secretary to another church, First United Methodist Church, in Dallas, NC. Crystal loves to read and hopes to someday fulfill her dream of becoming a writer. No matter what path she chooses in life, her ultimate goal is to service others in any way possible.

Crystal has been dealing with moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis for about 14 years. In 2011, she was diagnosed with IgA nephropathy, a chronic kidney disease. This disease has been taking its toll on Crystal quickly and her doctors at the University of North Carolina (UNC) determined she will ultimately need a kidney transplant. In order for this to happen, she had to undergo extensive testing to be placed on the waiting list. Through all of this, she has maintained her part-time job as a secretary, does bulletins for her church, takes care of her home and children. Her younger daughter goes to North Carolina State University. Her older daughter, Ashleigh, runs her own online business making it possible to help with her mom’s care. However this is a challenge they cannot face alone.

Transplantation is lifesaving but costly. Even with the best of insurances, there will be many transplant-related out-of-pocket expenses. To help with these, a fundraising campaign in Crystal’s honor has been established with Help Hope Live, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law, are held by Help Hope Live in the South-Atlantic Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by Help Hope Live for transplant-related expenses only.
