Let us tell you a little about Help Hope Live and then about Dan.

Non-profit Help Hope Live will assure fiscal accountability of funds raised for Dan and tax deductibility for contributors. Dan will get the medical durables and things that he needs. A combat veteran, Dan honorably served during wartime and was twice injured in the line duty. While he still carries shrapnel from one injury, Dan’s catastrophic military injuries left him hypoxemic and comatose. Flown by chopper to a trauma unit, Dan received 27 units of blood, awoke several weeks later from his coma, and never regained most of memory, even weeks later. He was maintained in the military for almost two years, undergoing rehab to regain his basic skills like reading, writing, arithmetic, walking, etc.

After his honorable discharge in 1991, Dan fought for his future, attending Collin Creek Community College (Plano, TX); Santa Fe Community College & the University of Florida (Gainesville, FL). Until 2019, Dan served his community and non-profit Christian ministries, working as an advocate for those needing food, shelter, and monies and/or facing litigation. He also coached his son and many thousands of athletes for decades in four sports and in hundreds of track & XC meets through dozens of local and regional meets and to 10 AAU/USATF Nationals!

However, on 06/15/2019, Dan’s medical conditions related to his service-connected TBI and spinal injuries began to rapidly and permanently deteriorate. While he was not only forced to involuntarily and prematurely retire, Dan became homebound, wheelchair bound, dependent on a regular 24/7 medically necessary caregiver for all ADLs without which he would require residency in a nursing home. The Veterans’ Administration has been a godsend, but it cannot cover all of Dan’s needs.

At this point, Dan faces an uncertain future. His environment is only partially ADA compliant, while its carpeted, uneven floors, too-narrow doors, lack of Hoyer lift, etc., endangers Dan and contributes to his isolation. His VA Permobil wheelchair cannot be transported for Dan. The impact has also been catastrophic, financially.

We are asking for donations to help this family get back on their feet and to provide Dan a safe environment and ability to transport him. Your donation, regardless of amount, will go towards these and will be extremely appreciated.
