Dana Bass

My life changed forever within five and a half hours…

Family and friends of Dana Bass are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with Catastrophic Injury.

On September 11, 2019, at Cooper University Hospital I had surgery performed by a neurosurgeon. I was placed under general anesthesia to reimplant a cervical and thoracic spine stimulator. After surgery I was told by my doctor the surgery had to be aborted because of “a sudden acute loss of physiologic signal from my cervical part of the spinal cord,” which caused a spinal cord injury causing paralysis in all four limbs.

On September 12, 2019, the surgeon sent me for a MRI of my cervical spine. The radiologist found major swelling at my C2-C4.

This surgical accident left me paralyzed in my left limb and weakness in my left leg. I use either a wheelchair or a quad cane to move around. I have had to modify my home by adding hand railings to my bathrooms. Furthermore I may need to continue to add other modifications to my house as I progress through my recovery. Finally in order for me to live independently and safely, I had to purchase a medical alert system.
