Darla Tienda

Darla Tienda is a proud mother of two wonderful children, Jazmine and Jayden, who she took legal guardianship of at ages 5 and 10. She is a grandmother of two beautiful grandsons, Alexander and Danny. She is a daughter to Mary Rose and George, a sister to Jody and Roxanne, and a friend to all. Anyone who meets Darla is immediately taken in by her smile, laugh, and overall warmth.

Darla has spent her life and career helping others. She worked with underinsured patients to obtain health insurance in various roles at Porter Adventist Hospital before transitioning to the financial coordinator role on their transplant team. She worked tirelessly to assist transplant patients with understanding their insurance benefits, obtaining authorizations for transplant evaluations, listing, and the transplant itself. Now it is Darla who needs our help.

Darla was diagnosed with Lupus in 2010. She has had several courses of treatment with varying degrees of success. Unfortunately, her most recent lupus flare has resulted in the need for a lung transplant. Darla is now on the lung transplant list at University of Colorado Hospital.

Transplants are lifesaving but financially draining. Even with insurance, Darla is facing very high expenses including post-transplant medications, co-pays, an annual $3,500 deductible, lab fees, and more. Darla has been unable to work since February 2017 and won’t be able to return to work for several months after her transplant. She is fortunate to have short term disability through Porter, but this is only 60% of her income.

To help with the financial burden of uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign has been established in honor of Darla Tienda with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to help patients and families in need for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law and held by Help Hope Live in the Midwest/West Lung Transplant Fund in honor of Darla Tienda.
