Darrel Kidney

Darrel Kidney is a 59 year-old man and he desperately needs your help. Darrel was diagnosed with non-alcoholic liver disease (NASH) and without a lifesaving liver transplant, he will soon run out of time. Prior to getting sick with liver disease, Darrel worked hard at his job and hardly ever called out sick. His lifelong career as a long distance truck driver was his passion and livelihood. However, due to his illness and its progressive nature, Darrel is now out of work and having difficulty making ends meet. He now needs your help more than ever.

Darrel’s loving and supportive family are committed to seeing him through his liver transplant at Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee. His two beautiful daughters and three grandchildren are both his pride and joy. Darrell’s youngest grandchild has Downs Syndrome, and Darrel has a very special bond with him and enjoys helping with his care. Darrel is selfless and rarely asks for anything ever. He has always been self-sufficient and a true giver. Now it is time to reach out and help Darrel, and help see him through his upcoming liver transplant.

Transplants are lifesaving, but the costs are monumental — much more than Darrel can handle alone. Co-pays and deductibles, health insurance premiums, medical appointments, travel fees, and caretaker expenses continue to add up. Darrel will also be required to take costly post-transplant medications that help fight organ rejection. These expenses can cost upwards of $3000/month.

To help with this financial burden, a fundraising campaign in Darrel’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years.
