Dave Isbrandt

Family and friends of Dave Isbrandt are raising money to help offset medical expenses associated with his long illness. Dave suffers from Charcot Marie Tooth disorder, a genetic disorder that causes loss of sensation in limbs starting with the feet and moving up the legs. The disorder also causes hand and arm weakness which makes using a manual wheelchair difficult or impossible.

Dave has surgery in Philadelphia scheduled to repair his right foot and ankle. He will have extensive transportation costs for himself and a caregiver to escort him. Dave’s physicians have recommended a power wheelchair for Dave to make his day-to-day life easier. His power wheelchair will enable him to elevate his legs as ordered to prevent further disability. Additionally, he needs a ramp installed at his home so he can safely enter and exit.

For Dave to remain as independent as possible, he also needs a vehicle that can accommodate his wheelchair and allow him to get in and out of the car unassisted. His primary goal is to continue his work as a guidance counselor at Canisius High School, a private Jesuit High School for boys in Buffalo, New York. Dave has devoted his entire career to guiding students through their teenage years. A modified van will allow him to continue this important work.

Dave has always and without hesitation given his time and talents to our community. He is reluctant to ask for anything, but now it is our turn to give back to Dave. These expenses will cost more than $50,000 and we are asking you to help us reach this goal so Dave can have the equipment he needs to remain independent.

To help with this, a fundraising campaign in Dave’s honor has been established with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law, are held by Help Hope Live in the New York Catastrophic Illness Fund, and are administered by Help Hope Live for transplant-related expenses only.
