Please Support Dave During his Recovery From His Second Double Lung Transplant!

David Ludwig is a 28 year-old man who was born with Cystic Fibrosis (CF). He has health insurance but there are plenty of expenses that are not covered.

He was diagnosed as an infant and has fought a gallant fight against the disease his entire life. His only hope for survival was a double lung transplant, which he received on July 16, 2014! But he experienced rejection and had a second double lung transplant on December 11, 2015! He needs your help because the cost of another transplant is overwhelming. David and his family are committed to seeing him through the transplant recovery process.

David grew up in Huntington Beach, CA. Those who know him will attest to the fact that he is sensitive, generous, very intelligent and has a dry sense of humor. He was a recipient of the 2004 Youth Character Award and a film he produced was an official selection to the 2010 Newport Beach Film Festival. He has been working towards a degree in Psychology for years but had to drop out last year due to his failing health. He was an avid golfer but has since given up the sport due to his extreme breathlessness. David is eager to resume and complete his studies and desires to use his life experience as a warrior and survivor (!) to help others in similar situations.

Transplants are life-saving but financially draining. David is one of the “lucky” ones with CF who got new lungs, not once, but twice. Truly a miracle! Now he is faced with astronomical expenses. Even with insurance, David is facing very high medical costs. He will endure a lengthy hospitalization now, multiple weeks in the Intensive Care Unit, post operative care, ongoing post transplant medication costing $10,000 a month, various copays, lab fees and more. He has had incredible care from a team of experts at USC Keck Medical Center in Los Angeles. They include doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, and many more. They are amazing, and expensive.

To help with the financial burden of David’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in his honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Southwest Lung Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only.
