David Ray Wood is a 34 year old male in Ardmore, Oklahoma. A small community of about 25k people.

9-18-2025

At the Mercy Hospital E.R. he was transported to Integris Baptist Medical Center in Okc,Ok and admitted due to liver failure. Within just a few days his kidneys stopped working also and was placed on dialysis.

He stayed 19 days in the hospital and was released home on 10-06-2025. Scheduled for dialysis 3 times a week, where the goal was approximately 2.5L of fluid removal over 3.5 hours. Due to worsening conditions these goals were unobtainable, only managing to get around 1.3L on each treatment due to blood pressure falling to unsafe levels.

10-17-2025 After a very painful and restless night, he was taken back to Mercy hospital thinking that a paracentesis was needed to remove fluid from the abdomen. The hospital ER doctors were fearful he was having “vascular contractions” involving the liver. He was sent via Medi-Flight back to Integris Hospital in Okc,Ok and admitted into the ICU where he is currently in critical condition in need of a liver transplant. with hopes and prayers that the kidneys will begin to function sometime after surgery.

After many worrisome days and night he was finally placed on the transplant list on 10-23-2025.

10-24-2025 We received a phone call telling us that a suitable organ had possibly been found and could possibly go down to surgery that morning around 5:30 a.m. However, the transplant surgeon came to visit with David and saw that his BP was still running at an unsafe level for general anesthesia and the operation was cancelled. Now he would have to wait for another suitable organ can be found.

10-25-2025 as of this writing they may have found an organ that would work well for David and we wait for further notice. David is in critical condition and could possibly slip away due to his body continuing to decline. Transplant is his only hope for survival.

10-26-2025 At approximately 4:00 p.m. incision was made and the transplant got under way. After near 6 hours of surgery and 73 units of blood being transfused, and blood supply was connected to the donor organ surgery was halted due to blood loss and blood pressure being too low to proceed.

10-27-2025 Once again around 4:00 p.m. surgery resumed to complete the transplant. It lasted approximately 4 hours.

10-30-2025 He is getting better though struggling with excessive pain, he was up and in a recliner in ICU for about 3 hours. Physical Therapy began yesterday and will continue today. He keeps fighting and is slowly winning the battle in the healing process.

Following discharge from hospital David will be living with his parents so that proper care can be given to regain his health and get on with a productive happy life.

Funds will be needed to provide life sustaining medications which will be needed for the rest of his life and also help with returning doctor visits as Ardmore is about 112 miles one way to the hospital. ( probably 2 trips a week for quite some time and possibly more if heaven forbid difficulties arise.
