Deb Powell

Dear Friends and Family,

We are writing to you regarding Deb Powell. Deb is the loving wife of Leo, mother of Andy, Chuck and Kelly, fun grandmother of six and good friend to many. As most of you know, Deb suffered a fall this past June which resulted in a traumatic brain injury. While she has taken many steps on the road to recovery, a great many more steps are necessary.

After months in the hospital and rehab, Mom is now home and is continuing her much needed physical and occupational therapy as an outpatient. She also requires a caregiver 24 hours a day. Mom is continuing to respond to her treatment but it is a very slow and steady process. Mom is now able to follow a conversation, but still has trouble maintaining her focus and energy. In spite of the many struggles that she faces, Mom remains hopeful that she will be able to return to a productive life in the community through the support of family and friends.

To help with the challenges associated with financing treatment, home modifications, a full time caregiver and other injury-related expenses, a fundraising campaign in Mom’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive (formerly NTAF), a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for nearly 30 years. In 2000, they expanded their mission to include those who have sustained a catastrophic injury. All contributions are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Midwest/West Traumatic Brain Injury Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for injury-related expenses only.
