Debi Lane

In March 2024, Debi visited the emergency room because of a suspected lung infection. Her pulmonary doctor prescribed medication, but her condition didn’t improve. She was admitted to the hospital for four days. Even after returning home, she continued to struggle with breathing and needed supplemental oxygen. Her mother and son took her to another emergency room visit, which led to her admission to Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. After two days there, the lung team discussed the possibility of a lung transplant with Debi. She was deeply saddened and overwhelmed when she learned this news. Debi had hoped that relocating to Texas would improve her breathing, and it did for 6 years. However, it suddenly worsened, and the idea of undergoing such major surgery was disappointing to her. Later, after the conversation about the lung transplant, Debi’s doctor, Dr. Charles Burch, entered her room and found Debi unresponsive. Recognizing the severity of the situation, Dr. Burch immediately began CPR. Debi’s heart stopped for six minutes before she was revived and put on a respirator. While on the respirator, it was discovered that the cause of Debi’s condition was a pneumothorax in her right lung, which happens when air leaks into the space between the lung and chest wall, causing the lung to collapse. Her right lung had collapsed, and the doctors also found that she had a brain bleed as a result of an impending stroke, which didn’t fully occur. Additionally, her left lung was affected by emphysema. Debi is deeply grateful to Dr. Burch and the lung team at Methodist Hospital for saving her life. After experiencing a clinical death, Debi chose to undergo a lung transplant. Now is the time for needing money to get a transplant. She needs your help. Help her take a breath. Getting back to the dance floor and hitting the slopes for some snowboarding.
