Debra Sanford

Dear Friends and Family,

Our mother, Debra Sanford is in desperate need of a life-saving liver transplant. This is her only chance for survival. She has been diagnosed with NASH, non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver and over the past year, her health has significantly declined. Unfortunately, while Mom’s faith has not faltered, her health has.

Some of you may know Debra personally from her community volunteer work at her local food bank, out while she was rooting on her grandchildren at their games or orchestra concerts, or witnessed her unwavering faith while she worshiped at church. She is a wonderful role model and the epitome of a strong, Southern woman.

Due to the seriousness of Mom’s medical condition, she is no longer able to work and is on disability. We, along with her sister and nieces are doing everything we can to help support her. She has been in and out of the hospital and endured numerous medical treatments in both North Carolina and Virginia. These are only temporary fixes.

Not only is a transplant major surgery, it is also very expensive. Even with insurance there are many costs that must be paid out of pocket. Some of these are co-pays, deductibles, travel to and from the transplant center and relocation at the time of transplant. In addition, Mom will be on a life-time of expensive anti-rejection medications. This puts us up against a challenge we cannot meet alone and desperately need your help.

A fundraising campaign in Mom’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the South-Atlantic Liver Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only.
