Our active and loving sister, mother and grandmother, Delores Wright was diagnosed with end-stage liver cancer in 2019. Delores loves nothing more than spending time with her family, especially her son, Joe and her grandkids Brandon, Owen and her new granddaughter Amelia. However, her liver disease is now critical and has disrupted her ability to stay active and now leaves her struggling with daily pain.

In March 2020, Delores was placed on the liver transplant waiting list by Oregon Health & Science University Hospital (OHSU) in Portland, Oregon. There are multiple non-medical costs that she will be liable for before and after her liver transplant surgery. Due to the distance to the transplant center, Delores will have to relocate and live in Portland for about 3 months around the time of her transplant. Due to the fact that Delores lives 133 miles from the OHSU, approximately a 3 hour drive from her home, she is required to relocate to live close to OHSU, as it is essential for her to have access to medical care. The average cost of a hotel room in Portland, Oregon is $150 per night, $1,050 per week or $4,200 per month. The cost for housing prior to and after her organ transplant will be one of the most expensive non-medical costs she will encounter. She will also need to travel to Portland for care both prior to and after her transplant. In addition, Delores will be on a life-time of expensive anti-rejection medications. These medications, we are told, range from $3,000+ per month or $36,000+ per year.

We are very appreciative of the many offers of support and prayers during this time, but financial help is also needed as her insurance does not cover any relocation expenses. Family and friends of Delores Wright are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with transplantation.
