Dominik Johnston

Dominik is a young man turning 18 this June. He will be a high school senior next year and hopes to attend Ferris State for cyber security, while also volunteering to help animals. Despite being diagnosed at age 5 with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy he has managed to stay hopeful. Dominik has participated in many research trials over the years in hopes of treatment advances and one day a cure!

An avid gamer who is known for strong opinions and nonstop talking, Dominik has been a little isolated over the last year. We were forced to leave an unsafe home unexpectedly a couple years ago, leaving us to start over with almost nothing. Surrounded by support, we were able to secure safe housing just in time for him to recover from two major surgeries last year. Those surgeries left Dom unable to be lifted by me into a traditional vehicle.

Dominik looks forward to getting a job, attending social and family events and getting back into after school activities before heading off to college. He hopes to travel and be independent someday. An accessible vehicle is an expensive out of pocket cost necessary to improve Dominik’s future. As a single mom and sole caregiver for him I am limited on providing this for him on my own.
