DJ Needs Your Help

Donna Jean (DJ) Hatch-Sherlock needs a stem cell transplant. DJ has lived with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and its chronic disabling painful effects for many years. Now there is hope available – A STEM CELL TRANSPLANT! A stem cell transplant is her best chance to end and reverse the effects of this crippling disease. DJ has spent her life as a professional nurse caring for and teaching others. Now, she needs your help and prayers.

DJ was born, grew up, and went to school in Providence, RI. She earned a nursing degree from the Community College of Rhode Island and went on to Providence College and earned a Bachelor’s of Science at Roger Williams University in Bristol, RI. She studied Public Health at Boston University School of Public Health, and completed graduate school, earning a Master’s Degree in Nursing, at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences University (MCPHSU) Boston, with a focus on culture and disease across the life span as a Family Nurse Practitioner.

DJ’s special project at MCPSU was the concern for the availability of bone marrow to Native American people dwelling in urban areas. DJ traveled to Powwows selling t-shirts, signing up potential donors sponsored by the National Bone Marrow Program for Native Americans in conjunction with Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Boston. In short, she has dedicated her life to serving others.

A stem cell transplant is life giving, but financially draining. Even with insurance coverage, DJ is facing high expenses that include the transplant, an extra unit of stem cells, and rehabilitation physical therapy to assist DJ in walking again. There are co-pays, lab fees, and more. This presents a challenge that DJ cannot meet alone.

To help with the financial burden of DJ’s uninsured transplant expenses, a fundraising campaign in her honor has been established with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years.
