MY STORY ABOUT DOREEN:
I am asking for help for my dear friend Doreen! This is her story:
Doreen was born with a hole in her heart. When she was three years old, she had rheumatic fever which caused damage to her heart valves. It was shortly after that she had open heart surgery to repair the hole, and her heart values continued to be monitored. Doreen has endured valve replacement surgeries in the ‘80s and ‘90s, as well as an implant of a pacemaker.

In 2015, she was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, which makes it hard for the heart to pump blood to the rest of her body. She then had a CardioMEMS implanted into her pulmonary artery to help consistently measure heart rate, pulmonary artery pressure and fluid retention in the lungs in hopes it would help her from having a transplant.

Unfortunately, her heart continues to enlarge, and her heart condition robbed her liver of the blood it needs to work properly which has now caused liver cirrhosis. Doreen’s only option at this time is a heart and liver transplant to survive.

Doreen and I met when we were 13 years old. She was my best friend and partner in crime during our teenage years. There was so much laughter and fun! She was my maid of honor when I married Tim and she was my attendant when Tim and I had to marry again six years later in order to be part of the Catholic church. She was there for the birth of both my daughters.

Even though we haven’t lived in the same state for more than 25 years, we continue to be part of each other’s lives, and I love her with all my heart. Sadly, she has no family support.

While Doreen does have health insurance, there are still medical expenses that are not fully covered. Please consider donating to help ease Doreen’s worry of the financial burden she will incur.
