“A Lifesaving Double Lung Transplant: My Family’s Appeal for Help.”

The time has come when Doug no longer has a real choice. He has been informed that he needs a double lung transplant as soon as possible.

Unfortunately, there are no facilities here in Las Vegas that do them, so he will be required to relocate to San Diego for a year. Although I will be with him for at least three months, I will need to return to Las Vegas to work for most of the year. This means that we will have to financially maintain two households during this period. Although we knew a transplant was inevitable, we did not plan on this kind of expense. Therefore, we are asking family and friends to help with our fundraising efforts through Help Hope Live. Help Hope Live is a nonprofit organization that works with families that find themselves in situations like ours. Any money donated to Doug goes through Help Hope Live and comes directly to him.

Most of you know Doug as the guy everybody knows and remembers no matter where he goes. And those of you who are close, know him as the cook for some fantastic barbecues. We would really like to have many more years of those good times by the grill.

And so, your help is needed. Any and all donations will help toward our added living expenses as well as upcoming medical expenses that we anticipate, such as copays for prescriptions for the anti-rejection medicines he will be required to take. For you to get an idea of how expensive this can get, one medicine he has recently started has a $4500 copay each month. No one can pay that, of course, and grants are out there, but they don’t cover everything. Between those expenses and the high rents in San Diego, this is going to be quite costly.

Donations to Help Hope Live will help ease the financial burden of the transplants and will allow Doug to focus on the long road to recovery that he will be facing. Thank you for anything you can do.
