Ed Zellers

Dear Friends and Family,

I am writing to you on behalf of my wonderful son, Ed Zellers. Ed is the loving and caring father of Luke (9) and Leia (4). He enjoys spending time outdoors, camping, fishing, hiking and mostly spending time with his children.

A few months ago a virus attacked Ed’s heart. Ed’s health rapidly declined, he is no longer able to work and his heart has weakened to the point that his doctors have told us that his only option will be a life-saving heart transplant. We are currently working with doctors at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota and the Hershey Medical Center in Pennsylvania.

Even with insurance, funding this surgery is a monumental task since there are so many uninsured transplant-related expenses. Some of these are co-pays, deductibles, travel to and from the transplant center; relocation at time of transplant and Ed will be on a life-time of anti-rejection medications.

In order to ease the financial burden, a fundraising campaign in Ed’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive (formerly NTAF), a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for nearly 30 years. All donations are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Mid-Atlantic Heart Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only.
