Family, Friends and Hawai’i Radio Fans of Eric Bunda (DJ Kool E) are raising money through the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund Eric’s uninsured medical expenses associated with his liver-transplantation at the University of California San Francisco Medical Center.

If Eric Bunda’s life was a song, it would be made up of lyrics about a life spent giving, sharing and caring about his family and his community.

As one of the most recognized and highly regarded deejays in Hawaii, Eric Bunda (DJ Kool E) has used music as his foundation to transform lives.

Through song, he has shared messages of hope and positivity within the public and private school communities.

As a mentor, he has helped nurture and guide the next generation of deejays.

Within the community, Eric has donated his services and skills to support numerous nonprofit organizations including Aloha United Way, American Lung Association, HUGS For Hawaii’s Seriously Ill Children and Their Families, The AIDS Walk, and Make-A-Wish Foundation, to name a few.

He is a family man, raising and transforming the lives of 4 beautiful children and 2 grandsons alongside his wife all the while dealing with this diagnosis.

Now Eric needs us to help transform his life as he goes through the journey of receiving a liver transplant.

In 2020, Eric had a health scare that landed him in the hospital where he needed an emergency procedure for his esophageal varices.

During the procedure, doctors ran tests and the results came back: Eric’s liver was damaged. He was diagnosed with decompensated cirrhosis, a term that doctors use to describe the complications of advanced liver disease. People with compensated cirrhosis often don’t have any symptoms because their liver is still properly functioning.

With decompensated cirrhosis, Eric is nearing end-stage liver failure and is a candidate for a liver transplant.

In order to receive a transplant, he is asking for your help. To be near the hospital where he would be receiving a liver transplant, Eric will need to leave his job and family to move to the mainland for accessibility.

Monies raised will go to help pay for medical expenses, transplant care and other necessities.
