It’s An Erin Thing

New Year Eve, 2013, a few months before my 20th birthday, I woke up with symptoms of Bell’s palsy and went to the doctor. I was quickly hospitalized for extremely high blood pressure. Doctor’s determined that my kidneys were failing and I was diagnosed with End-stage Renal Disease and told that I would need a kidney transplant. A transplant is my only option for a long and healthy life.

Transplantation is lifesaving, but very expensive. Even with insurance, there are many out-of-pocket transplant related expenses such as co-pays and deductibles, doctor visits, and the costly immunosuppressant medications that I will have to take for the rest of my life.

To help with this financial burden, a fundraising campaign in my honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Great Lakes Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only.
