Dena’ Needs Our Help!

Dena’ Wagner was enjoying her new life after gastric bypass nearly 14 years ago. She was then diagnosed with polycystic kidney disease through a routine ultrasound six months after her surgery. For over a decade, doctors merely watched her condition. However, 3 years ago, she was hospitalized with full blown kidney failure.

Although she lost two brothers to kidney failure, she is optimistic in receiving a new kidney in the near future. She lives in Anderson, South Carolina where she helps her elderly parents, and has one surviving sister in Oklahoma.

As we all know, this is a long and expensive journey. Although Dena’ currently has insurance, we do not know what the future will hold. Even with healthcare coverage, Dena’ is still facing significant medical and prescriptions expenses, including costly post-transplant anti-rejection medications. Her estimated out-of-pocket cost is $2,000 – $5,000/month, and she is unsure of her final responsibility for the transplant itself. This presents a challenge that Dena’ cannot meet alone.

To help with the financial burden of Dena’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in her honor has been established with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law, are held by Help Hope Live in the South-Atlantic Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by Help Hope Live for transplant-related expenses only.
