Fadumo Muhudin

Hi everyone!

My name is Fadumo Muhudin. I am raising money to cover medical expenses associated with the cost of a prosthetic leg. While I have Medicare Parts A & B, unfortunately it leaves me with a great deal of expenses left.

I lost my leg 28 years ago, when I was 5 years old, in the Somalian Civil War. A group of men invaded my home and began beating on my father. I raced to his side to protect him and yelled at them trying to get them to stop. They bombed my family’s home, while we were still inside. My brother and uncle died in the explosion. I suffered severe injuries and had my leg amputated from the hip down.

I witnessed and experienced many acts of violence growing up during the Somalian Civil War. In another violent attack, I was shot in my remaining other leg. With the help of the United Nations, I was able to make it to a Refugee Camp and with their assistance came to safety in the United States. I have been living here for 17 years and have spent the last 4 years in the Kansas City area.

I am a single mother of a preschool age child. I work part-time at Wal-Mart to make ends meet. I currently use crutches and arm braces to move around in my daily life. I find moving around to be a very painful and difficult experience. Every day is filled with pain. A prosthetic leg, will give me the ability to walk unassisted without pain, something I have not been able to do for the past 28 years. It would make an enormous difference in mine and my young daughter’s quality of life.
