Hello family, friends, friends of friends and soon to be friends. I would like to introduce Forrest. He is a sweet as pie 2-month-old baby that has recently been diagnosed with Sagittal Craniosynostosis and needs surgery to allow room for his brain to grow and prevent permanent irreversible brain damage.

If you are like we were just 2 months ago, you are asking yourself, What is Craniosynostosis? Craniosynostosis is a birth defect that causes the bones in his skull to fuse together prematurely. In Forrest’s case his sagittal suture fused. When left untreated, pressure builds up on the brain (increased intracranial pressure), which can lead to brain damage, seizures, developmental issues, and severe headaches. Essentially, our beautiful, perfectly normal baby could be left to live life in debilitating pain, stop developing, and lose his quality of life if he doesn’t have surgery (a craniectomy).

Since our sweet Forrest’s birth our days have been filled with many hard decisions and worry. We have been left to mourn the newborn stage we thought he would have . Craniosynostosis is not something that was diagnosed prior to his birth.

We have researched and consulted with many neurosurgeons and plastic surgeons and decided endoscopic surgery is in his best interest. Endoscopic is best when performed at 3 months. So this means that in order to preserve the quality of life Forrest deserves, he will need surgery in a few short weeks.
