Gentle Needs Your Help To Get Back to Normal Life

In June 7, 2015 my life changed suddenly. As a result of domestic violence, my neck broke at c5/c6 and became quadriplegic. I was in the hospital for three months, had two surgeries and intensive therapy. I have come very far over the course of a year. Doctors said I would never walk again, but I am learning to walk. I am feeling strong and ready to return to normal life but I need the help of my family, friends, and community to get there due to the extreme expense of recovery from and living with a spinal cord injury.

I am a mother of four wonderful children and was involved in their lives 110% taking them to and from school, back and forth between practice and games, and volunteering at their school and sports. The hardest part of my journey has been being apart from them for more than a year to go to rehabilitation.

Unfortunately, recovery from injuries like mine come at a great cost because much of what I need to get back to a normal life is not covered by insurance. I will need home modifications so I can be reunited with my children and an accessible vehicle to get my children to school and for me to get back to working and volunteering and going to school. I also need more therapy to help spasms; Rehabilitation has referred to me to another place that insurance doesn’t cover. I want to show my babies that no matter how hard the challenge is, you can beat the odds; A good mind-set, determination, and faith will take you a long way.
