Family and friends of George Christianson are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with transplantation.

That’s me, over on the left of the screen. This was part of a selfie with my sister, and I was hamming it up. I was in Seattle getting evaluated for a kidney transplant.

My kidneys don’t work. I have a hereditary disease called Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease. My kidneys are riddled with fluid filled cysts that over time renders them large, painful, and no longer working. The only cure is a transplant.

Unfortunately, insurance does not cover all expenses. For instance, once I receive a transplant, I have to stay near the hospital for 4-6 weeks after surgery to make sure the new kidney functions, the anti-rejection meds are correct, etc. For me, that means a month or more in either Seattle or Denver, neither of which is known for a low cost of living. Reimbursement for travel and food are also limited.

I am also fundraising in case I am fortunate enough to find a living donor, again to cover any expenses not covered by insurance.
