Gerald (known by family and friends as Mark) was living happily in the prime of his life with his wife, Amanda, and their two school-aged children until a work accident led to the discovery that he has heart failure, at just 42 years old (in 2022). Since the diagnosis, Mark has been hospitalized a number of times, and has had multiple procedures to try to improve his heart health. He is not able to work, or engage in any of his favorite pastimes, which include cooking healthy (and delicious!) meals for family and friends, and going to the gym.

Mark’s doctors expect that he will need a heart transplant or LVAD (Left Ventricular Assist Device) in the near future. Even with insurance, the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) estimates that a heart transplant can cost upwards of $500,000. With these things in mind, his medical team has recommended that he and his family begin raising funds for the surgery, hospital stays, and aftercare that will be required.
