Please Help Save my Dad!

My father, Greg Gottesman, was diagnosed with type-II diabetes at the young age of thirty-two. At first, his vision slowly worsened and he had to temporarily withdraw from his education to receive a degree in Culinary Arts. By 2011, my father was diagnosed with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) or kidney failure. It was then that he had to start peritoneal dialysis but it was in 2015 that the final blow came. He was diagnosed with peritonitis, an inflammation of the inner lining of the abdomen. Doctors removed the catheter from his stomach. Now he has in-center hemodialysis three days a week, for four hours each treatment. This leaves my dad with very little energy, and he has limited time to spend with my mom, myself, and our friends.

After extensive medical testing, my dad was placed on the list for a kidney transplant at University of North Carolina Hospital though he is hoping to find a living kidney donor. Transplants are lifesaving, but very expensive. My dad is facing many out-of-pocket medical expenses including caregiver expenses, co-pays and deductibles, medical bills that include testing fees, travel, lodging, and possible relocation costs. My dad will also require post-transplant anti-rejection medications needed for the rest of his life.

To help with the financial burden of the uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign has been established in honor of Greg Gottesman with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to help patients and families in need for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law and are held by Help Hope Live in the South-Atlantic Kidney Transplant Fund in honor of Greg Gottesman.
