Family and friends of Gregory Cook Sr. are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with transplantation.

Gregory aka Cookie Monster (CB Handle) is a Husband and Daddy who is need of your help. In March of 2022 Gregory wasn’t feeling well so he was taken to the local ER. On that night we first heard the words “Congestive Heart Failure” and there was a need for a follow-up with a Cardiologist, we were in disbelief, we had no idea of what was to come with this diagnoses. The end of April 2022 a heart catheterization was attempted, at that time he needed to be given Narcan to wake him up as his heart was just too sick for sedation to complete the procedure. At the beginning of May 2022, we first heard the words that would truly turn our whole world upside down: “End Stage Heart Failure” and “Heart Transplant”.

Gregory was told he couldn’t work anymore due to his condition. He didn’t know what to do with that information as he has been a truck driver for over 30 years, that is how he has provided for his family. He was also very active in our minor son’s life, shooting hoops, throwing the football, basically all things little boy; Gregory is no longer able to do those things as he has a continuous IV medication drip that makes his heart pump like it is supposed to through a Picc Line in his arm, directly to his heart, which he has to be careful of, so it doesn’t get pulled out. He was also very active in our 2 daughters lives even though he was on the road working to provide for us. Our oldest daughter always said she wanted to be a truck driver just like her Daddy; in Sept. 2021 Gregory trained her when she went to work at the same job he was currently working. She calls her Daddy all the time to ask him questions and is now driving the truck that he drove up until he got sick. Our youngest daughter now stays with her Daddy during the day, so I can work and she works at night. Gregory has always enjoyed going to the beach/pool with our children, he is no longer able to do that due to his many medications (not able to be in the sun) and not being able to get his medication pump wet. Gregory is also known for lending a helping hand when one is needed, whether it be family or strangers. I cannot even begin to tell you the number of times I have seen him buy the homeless a hot meal or a hot cup of coffee while out on the road working. I have also seen him become “Dad” to a multitude of children that have passed through our doors as our children’s friends over the years. Gregory is now the one in need of a helping hand.

At this time Gregory must travel over 2 hours (1 way) at least once a month to the Transplant Hospital for regular appointments and must stay overnight locally at times if he has multiple appointments. Once Gregory has his heart transplant surgery there are going to be expenses for lodging and medication that are not going to be covered by his health insurance.

Donations to Help Hope Live can help alleviate some of the financial stress on Gregory so that he can focus on his treatment, surgery and recovery so that he can once again be healthy, and the provider and helping hand that he is accustomed to being.
