Grey is a three year old happy boy.  On 8-22-22 he was born with a severe form of spina bifida and many other health concerns. A majority of his health concerns affect his brain like chiari malformation 2, and hydrocephalus that has caused the need for 2 VP shunts in his brain and 1 T-shunt in his upper spine. He has a very rare genetic mutation called WDR81, SOX3, and an unknown immune disorder. We are in the process of getting into the Undiagnosed Disease Network for all 3. He is ventilator, trach, and oxygen dependent, feed pump, pulse ox, farrell bag, suction machine, emergency go bag, and some extras have to be with him at all times. G is a medically complex guy and will have life long complex medical needs. He sees 13 different specialists at Lurie’s Children’s Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. When he has appointments its a long day for all.

He is always cheerful with a smile on his face. Loves music and any type of attention he can get. He enjoys throwing and pushing his toys off his hi-low chairs tray. Then laughing and smiling as you have to pick it all up to do it again. Everyone loves his long eye lashes and beautiful eyes. He is such a sweet heart you can’t help but love him.

Grey will always have struggles in life but he will not let that stand in his way. He is starting to develop his personality and getting stronger every day.  It’s so amazing to witness him overcoming obstacles. Due to his low tone he is now beginning to use his hands and arms with purpose. He can grab-hold toys. Bring toys to his face. Push toys onto the floor. That is a huge accomplishment and we celebrate it every time.

Grey is fundraising for medical transport needs. He is in need of a bigger van, like a 10-12 person van. This will fit all of his vital equipment, emergency supplies, extra supplies, travel safely, room for the home nurse and siblings,  and with a wheel chair lift. A Ford Transit XLT is the ideal vehicle. That size will give us the room for all of G’s supplies and needs, room for his home nurse to travel comfortably, and extra seating for a few of his siblings to ride with him!

We hope to be able to do more as a family. With a bigger safer vehicle we will be able to explore more and let G have the same experiences as any other three year old. This would ease a lot of stress. Right now it takes about 15-20 mins to load or unload him from our van. As he gets bigger it will become a safety concern for G, and the person carrying him and his vent to the van. Then having to lift him into his car seat.  With the Ford Transit it should only take about 5-10 mins to load and unload him. With a lift he is able to stay in his mobility chair and wheel right in and then lock in. With inclement weather and physical safety in mind the transit with the lift is a game changer for the whole family.
