“I want to continue to help others smile with me.”

If you spend any time with Phil, you are going to smile. It seems as if that’s his goal as soon as
he walks through a door. Neither cancer nor a heart bypass could get him down. But,
beginning in 2011, when he and his wife, Debbie, lost their home due to the rising cost of
medications for his failing liver and an overwhelming amount of doctor’s visits, times began to
get much more difficult. During these times, Phil was still strong, and he and Debbie moved in
with her parents to help them during their own medical difficulties.

Just recently, they were able to move out and get a place of their own. As you know, housing
costs are extremely high, and since Phil and Debbie are both on SSI because of their illnesses,
they have met even more challenges because of the increasing costs of medications, doctor’s
visits, gas, and life’s other necessities. As they navigate the journey of living with illnesses, they
are staying hopeful and pray that someday soon their lives can get back to a new normal.
That new normal includes a new liver.

He has finally been given the news that he is strong enough to have the transplant that will save
his life.

Phil’s family and friends are bonding together to help as much as they can, and are hopeful that
this fundraiser will help them get through this difficult time. Phil will need life-saving medications
and continual doctor’s visits once he gets the transplant, which is why there is such a need for
support
