Heather Johns

Heather Johns was diagnosed with kidney disease while serving in the US Air Force in the mid-1990’s after returning home from the Desert Storm. Her original prognosis was dialysis within 2-5 years followed by transplant with a donated kidney. Through healthy living, she proved the doctors wrong and didn’t need dialysis for another 25 years. Now that she is on dialysis and listed for transplant, she will incur costs not covered by insurance.

She lives in Ketchum, Idaho, a small town 2 hours north of Twin Falls where she receives dialysis treatment. She is listed for transplant with the University of Utah (Go Utes!), a 300 mile drive away. She will need to pay for travel and short-term accommodations for at least a month in Utah as well as travel and accommodations for appointments after transplant which are ongoing for years.

After transplant she will be given an assortment of drugs until the right mix of antirejection drugs is determined. Some of these drugs can exceed $3,000.00 a month before insurance.

Family and friends of Heather are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with transplantation.
