Hector Ordonez

Hello, my name is Hector Ordonez. I am fifty-one years old and in need of a lifesaving transplant. I was diagnosed with congestive heart failure in 2004, have had 3 strokes and 2 heart attacks since. I have been on short term disability since April 8, 2013 but that will expire on April 13, 2014.

I have worked for AT&T for almost 20 years as a cable technician. Thankfully my insurance is helping me with the cost of the transplant, but, because I live alone, I will need to stay near the hospital and hire a private caregiver for 12 weeks of aftercare/rehab plus all related expenses that the insurance does not cover. The cost of a guestroom at UT Southwestern Medical Center- St. Paul Hospital is $40 a night and $800 – $1000 a week for a private caregiver.

To help with these expenses, a fundraising campaign in my honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for 30 years. I am blessed with two beautiful daughters ages 27 and 25, a 5 year old grandson and a granddaughter who is 2, as well as lots of family and friends. More than anything, I would like to be around to see my grandchildren grow up and play with them (they already know they’ve got grandpa wrapped around their little finger) and my youngest daughter get married and graduate from college.
