Family and friends of Hillary Evans are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with Catastrophic Illness.

Help, Hope, Live supports community-based fundraising for people with unmet medical expenses and related costs due to cell and organ transplants or catastrophic injuries and illnesses.

Hello Friends and Family,

In the Spring of 2020, Hillary was diagnosed with a triad of disorders that have greatly impacted her quality of life. The technical names for her disorders are Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, and Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome.

These disorders cause a number of issues that make regular daily activities extremely difficult. Over the last few years, Hillary has seen multiple specialists, tried numerous medications and treatments, all while trying to maintain her job full-time. If you know Hillary, you know that she’s very dedicated to the work of ending homelessness and truly loves what she gets to do. However, the symptoms of her illnesses have become so disabling that she recently applied for long-term disability. The process has been tedious and difficult and she is still awaiting an answer. In the meantime she had to let go of her job.

It’s been sad seeing Hillary push hard to find solutions while suffering. There’s been a lot of heartbreak and loss these past two years, and yet she still keeps trying to get better, keeps showing up emotionally for the people she loves, keeps making us laugh, and keeps making plans for a better future. She keeps her mind focused on eventually being well enough to travel again, to see friends and family, and to begin foster parenting with Myke.

Without her income or disability payments, the cost of her medical care has become overwhelming. This has resulted in her having to put off care while she waits for a decision with disability. Three of the specialists Hillary sees do not take insurance and so she pays out of pocket for those visits. There’s a number of promising treatments that Hillary’s Neurologist has recommended and we’re hopeful that if she was able to receive these interventions, she could manage her illnesses more effectively and return to a more active life.

We’re asking for help in offsetting the costs of these treatments. These include surgery, neurological physical therapy, a 6 month program with a functional medicine specialist, in-home nursing care and IV therapy, and additional neurological testing and medications.

We applied to work with Help Hope Live in part because Help Hope Live assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and tax deductibility for contributors.
