For the past few years, Hilton has been courageously battling poor health. With diabetes and hypertension, Hilton has suffered 2 strokes and 3 heart attacks and now renal failure. Even with many medical issues and multiple hospitalizations, Hilton’s determination to fight for life is incredibly admirable and encouraging. His love for his wife, Kisha and his 2 sons, Shelton, 19 and Hilton III, 2 years, in addition to his unwavering faith has kept him grounded and focused on surviving.

Hilton’s strength to live is an inspiration to all. Hilton has had several family members come forward to be tested for potential living kidney donors. With his health in decline, he has been unable to work since April and his only real chance at a long productive life is to receive a kidney transplant as soon as possible.

Currently, Hilton has begun the initial medical evaluation at St. Barnabas Medical Center. However, the extraordinary expense of transplantation, along with Hilton’s inability to work, make funding this life saving operation is a monumental task. Hilton is still awaiting a response from Medicare/Medicaid, but even with 80% that each plan covers, many medical needs will remain uninsured and must be paid out of pocket. The operation with lifelong medications costs approximately $650,000. Therefore, Hilton will be responsible to produce a minimum of $125,000 to start the transplant process once the proper insurance is in place. This presents a challenge Hilton cannot meet alone.

To help with his uninsured costs, a fundraising campaign in Hilton’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a non-profit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for 30 years. All contributions are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPLive in the Mid-Atlantic Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant related expenses only.
