Help us raise money for Hunters lung and bone marrow transplant!

Help Hunter get new lungs! Hunter is a 34 year old in need of a life saving transplant. He is being placed on the transplant list at University of Pittsburgh and needs help with uninsured medical expenses associated with transplant, travel, relocation and ongoing care.

Hunter was born with a rare genetic disease Chronic granulomatous disease (CGD). He was diagnosed at 6 years old being the first case diagnosed by the University of Louisville. Shortly after this he required a surgery to remove part of his left lung due to infection. He would find out nearly 30 years later that this surgery left him with the use of only his right lung. The progression of his illness has focused primarily on his lung which has required him to be dependent on oxygen for the last 6 years.

Despite repeated hospitalization and challenges Hunter always maintained a positive outlook and developed a signature sarcastic sense of humor. He enjoyed a full and social life throughout his teen and young adulthood, finding an interest in competitive paintball. Hunter travelled coast to coast watching and competing in paintball tournaments. In addition to his always supportive family, he was able to surround himself with an incredible community of friends that have been lifelong.

In 2013 he graduated from University’s of Louisville’s Speed school with a degree in engineering. Choosing the path of mechanical engineering Hunter has worked for the same firm for 10 years.

Starting in path towards transplant in 2019 Hunter began consulting with the transplant team at University of Louisville. Unfortunately Hunter was diagnosed with thyroid cancer late that same year. He was able to successfully overcome this and has not faced any additional cancer related illness since. Required to wait three years after this he began the process again with a referral to the Cleveland Clinic in March of 2023. The care team at the Cleveland Clinic was amazing but having never seen a case of CGD transplant, ultimately decided to refer Hunter to UPMC in Pittsburgh.

UPMC is working on an incredible program that allows patients with autoimmune diseases that need organ transplant to also receive bone marrow transplants. This program does require Hunter and his wife to relocate to Pittsburgh from the Louisville KY area.

To help Hunter offset the financial burden of his current, and life-long, ongoing medical expenses, a fundraising campaign in his honor has been established with Help Hope Live. Hunter will face various medical expenses not covered by insurance including co-pays and anti-rejection medications as well as travel and living expenses during his stays in Pittsburgh.
