Ian Privett

Family and friends of Ian M Privett are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with a Transplant. Ian has chosen to fundraise with Help Hope Live in part because donations are tax deductible for contributors and will only be used to cover medical and related expenses.

Ian is a 31-year-old Admissions Specialist at UW-Parkside with an avid love for his community. For over half of his life, he has been diagnosed with a progressive liver disease – Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis – that has gotten worse over time, subjecting him to frequent hospital visits and tests, a limited lifestyle, and now a liver transplant. Thanks to an amazing, unbelievably kind and generous acquaintance from his days at Carthage College, he recently received a live donor transplant. We are forever grateful to Nina Fleming! Ian is thankful and hopeful to begin his new life.

Since college, Ian has established his roots in the Kenosha area, whether volunteering to pick up trash, guiding students from admission to graduation, or simply enjoying the occasional trolley ride. Many people are touched by his good humor and positive attitude.

With his damaged liver, Ian had a severely bloated gut with an over twice-the-size liver and spleen, which limited his physical activities and diet. Scarred bile ducts caused swollen veins in his body, predominantly his esophagus. This ran the risk of internal bleeding, necessitating small yearly operations. He also had excessive itching from higher liver enzyme levels, leaving his skin consistently irritated, which made sleeping difficult.

Ian is fundraising for his liver transplant and medication costs. This includes his liver and gall bladder removal, transplant from a live donor, in addition to lifelong anti-rejection medications. He is paying for both his and the donor’s surgery and recovery on top of all future visits and prescriptions. This amount can further be exacerbated should there be any complications throughout recovery, which Ian and his family are seeking to raise $40,000 to cover the lifelong costs of Ian’s future. With this liver transplant, Ian will finally be able to live life normally again and even do more than he could before. He is optimistic about being able to live life in comfort and try new experiences that have been hindered by this liver disease.
