Since being diagnosed with COPD in 2014, Irene’s world has grown smaller. She has now reached the stage where a lung transplant is her only path forward. The activities that once defined her life—riding her bike, swimming, and chasing after her grandchildren—have been replaced by the quiet struggle to breathe.

Money raised for this campaign will help cover the cost of Irene’s life after transplant. For instance, once released from the hospital, she needs to live close to her transplant team for six-eight weeks post-transplant. Irene will need to be on anti-rejection medications for the rest of her life to prevent her body from rejecting her beautiful gift. While waiting for her new gift, Irene will be required to visit her transplant center every few months for critical monitoring to ensure her condition does not worsen before a match is found.
