Isaac Lopez

Family and friends of Isaac Lopez are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with a Catastrophic Illness. Isaac has chosen to fundraise with Help Hope Live in part because donations are tax deductible for contributors and will only be used to cover medical and related expenses.

Isaac was born with Terminal Myelocystocele, this is the most severe form of Spina Bifida as well as hydrocephalus. He had spinal surgery the day he was born to try and place the nerves back into proper place, and a shunt placed into his brain after birth. Isaac has to perform multiple procedures on his body daily as result of his condition, which he most likely will have to do his entire life.

Due to his diagnosis he is frequently ill, resulting in many missed days of work over the past 13 years for myself and school for him. Despite all of these set backs Isaac was still able to use his legs like any other kid and play soccer, jump around at trampoline parks, ride a bike, even karate class. Over the span of the past few years his leg function drastically declined. Just trying to take a few steps turned into unbearable pain for him.

We made the choice to switch his care to Boston Children’s Hospital in the beginning of 2025, and it was the best decision for my son. He has had 4 surgeries this year, one of them for a severely tethered spinal cord. We were hoping he would gain leg function back after this procedure. Unfortunately, he has not improved. He will be participating in a 4 to 6 week long extensive pain and rehabilitation program in Boston. A parent is required to be with him during his treatment. Isaac’s father passed away 10 years ago and I have really tried my best to handle things on my own, but now it’s time I ask for help. I can’t pass up this opportunity for my son’s only hope in being able to walk again, attend school, play soccer, laugh, smile, and most importantly be a kid again.

I am asking for help with necessities, such as apartment rent, utility bills, etc, as I will be unable to provide this for my family during our stay at the hospital.
