Jackie Parker

Jackie Parker (33), from San Angelo, TX has been a fighter all of her life. She has battled childhood cancer at the age of 7 and ultimately had her foot amputated. As a result of experimental chemo therapy and radiation Jackie has always faced medical complications throughout her 20+ year’s cancer free. Although the cancer was gone, the side effects were not. About 2 years ago, Jackie was diagnosed with congestive heart failure as a result of the chemo she was treated with. She has had a defibrillator implanted as well as many other medications prescribed to assist with her heart health.

As of April 2015, Jackie was admitted to Houston Methodist Hospital to be evaluated for a heart transplant. The committee decided that due to the stress on Jackie’s other organs that she would have an LVAD (left ventricular assist device) implanted in her heart to sustain her life as her other organs heal and will be re-evaluated for a heart transplant.

LVADs and heart transplants are life-saving but financially draining. Even with insurance, Jackie is facing very high expenses including relocating for an undetermined amount of time to be closer to Houston Methodist Hospital, post-implant/transplant medications, co-pays, lab fees, and more. Her parents, Randall and Barbara Parker will also face these expenses as they will need to relocate to be Jackie’s caregivers. Unfortunately, the Parker Family has been down this road before facing unexpected and untimely medical situations and knows that the costs, time away from family, and emotional stress can be unbearable.
