Hello, my name is Jackie.

I am in need of something that never seemed that important before. I am very grateful that I was able to receive a liver transplant on May 20, 2019. I would like to thank all the great doctors, nurses and staff at Einstein Medical Center. I am am now living my life to the fullest, thanks to their efforts, but I never knew how difficult it could be to receive a transplant. I have a suppressed immune system and it got so bad that doctors had advised me to avoid taking public transportation. I am need of accessible transportation to and from medical visits to continue to protect this gift I have been given.

I have been hospitalized many times before due to my immune system and have a high risk of falling. I am now faced with a new enemy with the current coronavirus outbreak and am scared at what may happen to me if I were to catch it. All in all, I remain calm knowing I have a family who loves me more than anything else in this world.

However, there is another family, I wish to thank with all my heart, and it is the family of Jeremy, my donor. Without Jeremy, I may not ever have received the second chance of the gift of life. I write to him and his family often thanking them for all they have done, and constantly am thinking about them during this difficult time. I have three children, all whom I love dearly and are ever so close to my heart. My hope is to someday have a means of accessible transportation so that I can get back to living my best life.

This time of social distancing is now for others but for me it is my constant way of life. Any complications I suffer due to my transplant or due to the coronavirus will not deter me from making the best of every day.
