My name is Cornelia Robinson, and I’m reaching out with the heart of a mother who has lived through the darkest moment imaginable. My son, Jadian Brooks, is just 18 years old. A year ago, he experienced a devastating mental health crisis that led him to attempt to take his own life. In a moment of unbearable pain, Jadian shot himself in the head with a gun, believing there was no other way out. Miraculously, Jadian survived. But survival came at a tremendous cost. The physical and emotional trauma he endured has changed our lives forever. Every day since that moment has been a battle—one of courage, resilience, and hope. Jadian is still here, still fighting, and still trying to reclaim his life. I am by his side every step of the way, as his mother, his caregiver, and his fiercest advocate. Despite the progress he’s made, Jadian’s journey is far from over. He requires long-term support to live safely and regain independence. Our home must be transformed to meet his new needs—ramps, bathroom modifications, mobility aids. He needs accessible transportation to get to therapy, medical appointments, and daily activities. And there are critical medical supplies and equipment that insurance simply won’t cover.
