Hi, my name is James Gray and I am in need of a heart transplant. I was born with a weak heart and in my 30’s my heart started having complications. I have been in a coma for 3 to 4 days while they were draining 6 litters of fluid out of me because of a weak heart. I only have 10% of my heart function; so they put in an LVAD “heart pump” when I was 46 because my heart was to weak to pump. I have had an infection on my drive line that caused me to die. I have to wear a 5 pound “man purse” around my neck for the past 4 years that holds the batteries and the small “brain” that runs the LVAD. The only hope I have for a long life is a heart transplant. I am also diabetic, had my knee replace twice, at this point I have had 20 surgeries just to keep going! Here is a letter from Vanderbilt letting you know why we really need your help. Mr. Gray is undergoing a heart transplant evaluation at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. His heart disease is requiring him to have a life-saving intervention called a Left Ventricular Assist Device. His chance at a long life is to undergo a heart transplant operation.

He was presented to our selection committee on 07/07/2020 and it was determined that he needs to fund raise a minimum of $5,000 to help aid with his ability to take care of his heart post-transplant. The requirements pre and post transplant can be very expensive as the medications, follow up appointments, co-pays and food and lodging will increase. We ask that all of our transplant patients start fund raising so that this found may allow them to be successful after transplant. We encourage our patients to not only fundraise before transplant, but after as well as this is a lifelong treatment that requires frequent follow up for the rest of his life.

With everything I have been through I still have a zest for life. From remodeling our house, working on cars, house keeping and mowing to name a few, I still try to live like I am not sick. I have enough “GRIT” to keep going the problem is I also need money. I am a proud man and wish I didn’t have to ask for donations but I really need help.
