On Aug. 10th, 2023, I was on my way down the wheelchair ramp, when I put my foot down too slow when a 2 1/2 inch deck screw went into the heel of my boot which caused a massive infection to start. After around 3 days of thinking it would be okay, I started having severe pain and it had an awful smell. I went to the ER and I was admitted into the hospital with 3 antibiotics by an I.V pump. After around 3 days, I went to surgery then I stayed for 4 days longer back for the 2nd surgery. They put me on a wound vac and a P.I.C. line in my main artery, I then was released and I went home where I had to administer my own antibiotic in my P.I.C. line every 8 hours, I had to do 2 antibiotics each time. After 4 days my foot was even worse and I had to go back to the ER where I was very sick with the infection spreading into the bone, I was admitted to the hospital for the 2nd time. After 2 days they amputated my leg below the knee, and now I have both of my legs that have been amputated. So now I am no longer able to walk, I lost the other one a year earlier to a similar situation. I am trying to get my home accessible for a wheelchair and a lot of modifications to be able to adapt to my new life. I will also need safety equipment for me to shower. I will need to be able to safely go to the shower, into the shower, to the toilet, and down a wheelchair ramp that is safe, the current one is rotted and very dangerous. I also need an SUV or a VAN that is easily handicap-accessible with modifications that will help with everyday life. I also need a bedside toilet, shower chair, gas to and from the doctor visits, and repairs to windows and the floor replaced in my trailer. We had severe water and wind damage from Hurricane IDA which hit us a few years back. I am only getting a little over $700 a month to pay for lights, water, and co-pays. My wife makes $800 a month, we just need prayers and financial help. Any donations of any amount will help a lot. My wife has to help me and be my caregiver, which means she is not able to work a full day now and is not getting the full $800. We are struggling to pay the bills, food, and gas along with everything else we need. we have a 16-year-old daughter who had been so sad about all of this, this really affected all three of us. Please share my story and fundraiser so we can set up my home repairs and remolding for my mobility access so that my wife can work and I can become more dependent on myself. with O.T. therapy to be able to walk safely and move around on my own one day with prosthetic legs. I will also need to purchase or have someone donate a vehicle with handicap modifications to me so that I can safely travel to doctors and therapy.
