PLEASE HELP JANIS

Janis and her daughter, Michelle, were both diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney and Liver disease in the same year. Michelle was the first to need a kidney transplant and was fortunate to receive one from a loving family member. She lived an additional 12 years before her recent passing due to an illness unrelated to the transplant which enhanced her life in so many ways. Janis was her primary caretaker and now needs your help.

Over the last three years Janis has overcome several urinary/kidney infections, thankfully managed with month-long regiments of daily antibiotic treatments but is now facing renal failure. While her cyst-ridden liver functions, it is huge, uncomfortable and makes mobility difficult. Due to its large size, there is no room in her abdomen for a kidney transplant without removing and replacing the liver.

Since there is no hospital in her home state of New Mexico that is able to do a dual kidney/liver transplant, Janis must relocate to Arizona where she will have an indefinite wait until a match is found with an unknown organ donor. (Please do check the “organ donor” box on you driver’s license – some person unknown to you may live as a result!) Expenses related to relocation compound the expense of daily ant-rejection medications needed post-transplant for the rest of her life.
