My story is this… Last June 6, I started on dialysis because my kidneys shut down.

I have a disease called FSGS which means the filters in my kidneys are clogging and I was on a very, very high dose of Prednisone and I really hated the side effects. I stopped the Prednisone cold turkey and never told anyone. Two weeks later I went to my cardiology appointment and they told me that I had to be admitted that day because I had end stage renal failure (ESRF).

While in the hospital I had to process a lot of new information all at once and it was scary beyond reason…. I had to think about starting dialysis, cutting back on fluid intake, changing my diet because of sodium, phosphorus, protein, etc. I had to think about end of life and do not resuscitate, if necessary.

I chose the route of dialysis and transplant. I’m having a good time at dialysis and I have my team and friends I’ve made there to thank for that!!!!!! I am currently in the middle of my work up for transplant and I believe I’m almost done. I just have a few things here and there to finish but I’m SO EXCITED to get my new kidney. Yes, sometimes I look like I just got hit by a bus. Dialysis drains me completely.
