I Need Your Support To Get A Lung Transplant!

In 2010, I was diagnosed with emphysema and COPD. At the time, my breathing capacity was just 36% and it has gone down since then. The doctor who treated me gave me no hope for the future, saying that operating on me would be terminal. But in June, 2014, when I was hospitalized for pneumonia, I met Dr. Peters, a pulmonologist who assured me that I was a good candidate for a life-saving lung transplant!

I’m married and I have three grown kids. For 25 years I worked in building maintenance in the Cheatham County school system. These days, I spend as much time as I can at the Ashland City Senior Center where I teach computer classes and give individual technology assistance. I’m also involved in my church and other community organizations. But unfortunately, relying on oxygen and being constantly out of breath has caused me to cut back on my volunteer work.

It’s never easy to ask for help, especially when you’re the one who wants to be helping others. Although my medical insurance will cover most of the transplant surgery, I am facing other expenses which include travel and several months of housing near the hospital in Nashville, clinic visits, rehab and anti-rejection medications that will cost thousands of dollars.
