JEFF STILL NEEDS YOUR HELP!

On December 3rd Jeff received his transplant. Complications arose and he required another surgery on December 11th. He is now recuperating, but he has to stay near the hospital for follow ups to ensure that there are no additional complications.

We are thankful for all the support and donations that we have received from family and friends, but Jeff receiving the transplant was not the end of the story…it is simply the beginning. We still need your help. There are still expenses, housing, transportation, medication (anti-rejection), co-pays and more.

Our insurance covers some cost , but not all and we can’t leave Arizona until Jeff is strong enough to survive.

My diagnosis of ESRD was unexpected. I came home from work one night and noticed my foot was swollen. I walk a lot at work and thought maybe I came down on it wrong. Keep in mind I was perfectly healthy, only took off work a couple days in that last 25 years for a common cold. No health issues. I came home elevated my foot, ate dinner went to bed. The next day both feet was swollen. No pain just swollen, I was elevating both, iced it. They were so big I could not put on a shoe.

My wife and aunt suggested I go get a X-ray to make sure I did not have a hair line fracture or something. I decide to have dinner, shower elevate them and see if they would go down. They didn’t so me and the wife yelled to the kids, we will be back and ran to the nearest ER for an x-ray. That turned into almost a 10 day hospital stay.

When I walked in I remember being so confused, I was hearing terms I never heard before. Kidney failure, congestive heart failure, dialysis, port. There was a least 4 doctors around my bed the first 24 hours. One Dr. kept asking my wife how long has he had kidney disease? She looked puzzled and said he has never had kidney disease. I was a very sick man and was told by doctors had I not come in I would not have lived another 24 hours. Very scary time for me and my family, uncertain of what has happening to me, procedures for ports, and every hour blood draws and dialysis machines. Family flying in.
Well I have now been on dialysis for 3.5 years, for 4 hours a day 3 days a week. Hemodialysis is very hard on the body and Dr’s say I need a kidney donor now. I am still in search of a donor, but preparing for that call.

After several years on dialysis I am told this year will be my transplant year. I am raising money to pay for medical expenses not covered by insurance. Those expenses can include, travel, transportation, relocation temporarily for treatment. I will need to stay in the state of Arizona for at least six weeks when I have my transplant. Cost will also include pre-transplant tests, copays for doctors and then co-pays for anti-rejection medication. These cost are pre and post transplant.

My family and friends of are raising money in my honor (Jeffery Marshall) for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with transplantation.
