Lupus survivor suffering from the life-threatening aftereffects of COVID-19

It’s never easy to ask for help, but we are asking on behalf of our beloved wife, mother, and friend. Jemeya was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus in 2014. Since then, she has faced many challenges. Unfortunately, in August of 2021, she contracted COVID-19 and hospitalized for three and a half months. Once discharged, she had to be physically rehabilitated and returned home on oxygen 24/7.

Examination of the lungs showed that they were severely scarred and damaged. It was determined that COVID-19 exacerbated the damage that the lupus had already done to her lungs. As a result, she was advised that she would be placed on the lung transplant list.

Jemeya is a selfless, hard-working, kind wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She has never met a stranger. Her friendly and welcoming personality drew people to her instantly. Even though the lupus had severe impact on her physical health and struggled with Chronic Pain, she still found time to be there for others. She annually did a school supply and Christmas drive. She partners with Bond Kids Inc. and Mothers Against Senseless Killing (MASK). She also cared for her elderly Aunt until she became ill. She started an event planning business that was derailed when she contracted COVID-19.

Because of the transplant, she will be relocating to Nashville, TN for three and a half months to have her transplant. The insurance will cover most of the cost of the procedure. However, it will not cover the living expenses.

We are asking all friends, family, and others if they would consider contributing. Any amount that you give, will greatly contribute to the family’s peace of mind during this challenging time.
