Jena Cavanagh

Family and friends of Jena Wyatt Cavanagh are raising money through the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with her Catastrophic Injury. Jena was paralyzed in March 2023 after one of her many back surgeries. She is currently paralyzed from her armpits down, due to spinal cord compression at T4.

Jena has had a few hospital stays, but works hard to stay home. will soon be returning home from where she is private paying for care at the skilled nursing facility. Renovations are already in the works so that the house will accommodate her new wheels and other needs. Jena needs a caregiver attendants to assist her on a daily basis.

Jena is a graduate of Villa Maria College with a degree in Therapeutic Recreation. She has spent over 30 years working for the Chester County Intellectual Developmental Disability (IDD) Department where her responsibilities have included reviewing Home and Community initial and annual eligibility. She was the DPW office problem solving point person and reviewed ISP’s participating in committees and problem solving. She appreciated the support of the Mental Health Early Intervention and Fiscal Department. Her passion led her to becoming the point person for Life Sharing in Chester County because in her words, “Have you thought about Life Sharing?” and giving a piece of candy when the response was “yes”. Prior to COVID, Jena loved regular visits to the Supports Coordination Department as well as around MH/IDD to talk about Lifesharing. Jena loved being a part of the IDD team and considered them family. COVID was really hard on Jena because she missed seeing her IDD family on a daily basis.

Jena has chosen to fundraise for Help Hope Live in part because Help Hope Live assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and tax deductibility for contributors. Contributors can be sure donations will be used to pay or reimburse medical and related expenses.
