Dear Family & Friends,

We are up against a challenge that we cannot meet alone and need your help. As many of you may know, Jennifer, who is 26 years old, and Jon, who is 21 years old, have had liver transplants. Jon was transplanted at 2 years old and Jennifer had her first transplant at 7 years old, and her second at 16 years old. They were born with an undefined liver disease that destroyed their native livers and required a liver transplant to save their lives.

Jen and Jon both require regular labwork, checkups with their transplant team and twice daily medications. These are things that will be ongoing for the rest of their lives. We still have about 150 cookbooks that we need to sell to raise funds for these ongoing expenses. The cookbooks for $10 each. Shipping is an addtional $2.50. Please consider purchasing a cookbook to help Jen & Jon meet these expenses.

Since 2006 Jon has had several medically tough years that included fighting a second unrelated liver disease. He is stable liver wise but in 2011 Jon was told that he will likely require another transplant in the future. In March of 2012 an EGD revealed that he has had a progression in esophageal varices and more damage to his esophagus from reflux. He requires lab work every 3 months and sees his transplant team once or twice each year. He is also maintained on 4 medications daily.

Jen has had many complications over the years including the need for a second liver transplant. In January of 2011 she was diagnosed with strictures (narrowing) in her bile ducts. After a fail attempt to place a stent she is currently being monitored thru labs. If her liver tests start to show her liver is distressed she will require stent placement under general anesthetic. Jennifer has the additional burden of keeping mediation levels high enough to prevent liver rejection, but not so high that her kidney function is compromised. She requires lab work once a month, sees her transplant team 3 to 4 times a year. Jen is maintained on 9 medications daily.

With both of them in need of medical care, this is an ongoing burden for our family. Combined, their uninsured medical expenses are over $12,000 per year.

It is our goal to raise $25,000. A campaign in Jennifer and Jon’s honor has been established with Help Hope Live, a nonprofit organization that has provided assistance to transplant patients and their families for over 30 years.
