Movement and transportation are two things that are both vital and taken for granted in today’s fast-paced, technological world. They’re two things that are necessary for people to participate and engage with people and society; but they are also two things that I, a forty-one-year-old man born with Cerebral Palsy (CP), struggle with every single day. My name is Jerry Espino, and I need your help to become a more independent and contributing member of society by obtaining a transport van. In reaching my goal of $40,000, I hope to no longer be a burden on my family, and to live my life in a more empowering and independent way. My journey to this point hasn’t been easy, but I have fought every single day to become a positive person despite my diagnosis and handicaps. In 2001, I graduated from Central New Mexico Community College (CNM) with an associate degree in business technology, and I enjoyed working at the Department of Health (DOH) until the 2020 COVID-19 Pandemic hit.  Even with CP, I strive to be social and active, going to the gym three times a week and participating in all my large family’s events. But I still rely on family, friends, and unreliable transport services to get anywhere. I don’t like to burden the people around me, so I tend to limit my movements.I currently live with my brother and his family, and while I enjoy helping with his family—my niece and nephews—being confined to my place of living due to lack of transportation has affected my mental health. In reaching my goal of $40,000 and getting a personal transport van, I believe I can once again become a productive member of society. In being able to move about freely, I can attend a day habilitation program, keep motivated and active, and be around others in fun social settings without having to burden my family, or deal with the demoralizing and stressful realities of transportation services. Any help given is overwhelmingly appreciated in helping me try to live my best life!
